Mission:

The Mid Atlantic Scouts Association (MASA) is a professional baseball group comprised of former and current Major League Baseball scouts and front office personnel.  The founding scouts defined this association's mission statement as "promoting the game of baseball and developing fellowship among scouts."

Historical Beginning:

Mid Atlantic Scouts Association's first meeting was held on February 22, 1970 at Frank Sansosti's home in Baltimore, Marlyland.  Listed below are the charter members who attended this first historical meeting.  Our professional baseball association is currently comprised of approximately more than 162 active members throughout the United States and Canada who have scouted in the mid atlantic.

Four Scouts to be Inducted into Hall of Fame   

Veteran scouts Hank Allen (Astros), Ken Calfano (Rays), Mike Garlatti (Rockies), and Alex Smith (Marlins) have been elected to the Mid Atlantic Scouts Hall of Fame. Their induction will take place at the annual MASA banquet to be held on Saturday, November 11, at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Maryland.  

Other scouts to be honored at the event include Rick Matsko, Diamondbacks (Scout of the Year), Greg Schilz, Phillies (Crosschecker of the Year), Mike Cubbage, Nationals (Career Recognition), and Jon Glusco, MLBSB (Part Time Scout of the Year). 

Jad Prachniak (West Chester U) will receive the Coach of the Year award. Tyler Wilson (Orioles) will be presented the "Outstanding Contribution in Pro Baseball" Award. Zac Rutherford (Old Dominion U) will be honored with the Nick Adenhart Amateur Player of the Year Award.

Jack Bowen Inducted into Hall of Fame

Jack Bowen of the Pirates, was inducted into the Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame on August 15th.  His plaque was unveiled at Riley Park in Charleston, South Carolina where it will hang permanently.  Jack is also a member of the Mid Atlantic Scouts Hall of Fame.

Rest in Peace, Gene

MASA mourns the passing of long time member Gene Kerns.  Gene passed away on June 7th.  Gene covered the mid Atlantic for the Atlanta Braves at the time of his passing.

Happy Retirement, Fred

MASA wishes all the best to long time Orioles announcer Fred Manfra.  Fred broadcast the final game of his illustrious career on June 4th.  Fred has been a great friend to scouts having served as master of ceremonies at six MASA banquets.  Fred received the career recognition award at the 2016 banquet and is one of three honorary lifetime MASA members.
